Henry Grey
Certified Authentic Pilates Education International Teacher
Henry grew up in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland and showed an interest in dance from an early age. At 13, he received a scholarship at the Youth America Grand Prix to attend professional full-time ballet training at The HARID Conservatory in Boca Raton, Florida, where he trained for four years.
After graduating in 2016, he moved to Munich to join the corps de ballet of the Bavarian State Ballet. In 2018, he was promoted to soloist. In 2020, Henry moved to Helsinki to join the Finnish National Ballet as first soloist. After retiring from the stage in 2023, Henry returned to Aotearoa New Zealand to begin a law degree. Alongside his legal studies, he was certified to teach Pilates by APEI in 2024.
Over his career, Henry was lucky enough to work with and star in productions by top international choreographers, including John Neumeier, Christopher Wheeldon, George Balanchine, Yuri Grigorovich, and Wayne McGregor, among others. He danced numerous leading and soloists roles across a wide and diverse repertoire.
While Henry hated Pilates as a child, he learned to love it in Munich in 2019 with Anna Villadolid. After discovering how beneficial Pilates can be, he was determined to maintain it after moving to Helsinki. There he worked with Johanna Francis and Nina Saarinen, and over summers would train with Katie Agnew at Authentic Pilates & Physiotherapy NZ. After moving home, completing his teacher training with Katie and APEI was inevitable.
Henry is passionate about his work and keen to help others discover Pilates on their own terms, whether that is accompanying sports/elite activity, general health or recovery. With his background he brings a deep understanding of movement, strength and flexibility that can be tailored to anyone. He looks forward to seeing you in the studio.
